Job summary

California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) seeks a University Controller (Administrator III) to lead the university’s core financial operations, including general accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting. This role ensures accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with CSU/GASB/FASB requirements, while driving process improvements and internal controls.

The position reports to the AVP for Finance, supervises accounting staff, and partners with internal/external auditors to advance

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field AND seven years of progressively responsible accounting management experience, preferably in a higher education or non-profit setting, which includes at least three years of supervisory experience.
• Valid California CPA license preferred. Other professional certifications may be considered as a substitute.
• Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent information system; Microsoft Office Professional Suite.

Responsibilities

• Meet CSU accounting requirements to record and report the University’s financial transactions and oversee campus financial statements.
• Supervise the MPP and other personnel in general accounting, financial reporting, and tax; mentor and develop staff.
