Job summary

California State University, Monterey Bay is seeking a University Controller to provide leadership for core financial operations, modernize processes, and improve efficiency with data-enabled, customer-centric services.

This senior role oversees accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting, working with internal/external auditors and ensuring timely, accurate statements and robust internal controls across campus.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or closely related field.
• Seven years of progressively responsible accounting management experience, preferably in higher education or nonprofit.
• CPA license preferred; CSU/CSU system experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general accounting, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
• Lead year-end financial statements, work papers, external audits, and related close activities.
• Develop and implement policies for funds including State general funds, special funds, and trusts.
• Ensure compliance with GASB, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors and maintain strong internal controls.
