Job summary

Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach is seeking a Unit Secretary to support nursing staff and ensure patient flow. The role handles patient requests, manages communications, and maintains charting accuracy in the hospital IT system.

The ideal candidate has 1-2 years in healthcare support, High School or GED with medical terminology, and a professional demeanor. On-site position with comprehensive benefits to employees.

Responsibilities

  • Answers and responds to patient requests promptly by informing appropriate staff.

  • Maintains professional greeting and visitor direction; handles deliveries and provides information.
  • Transcribes physician orders under RN supervision; inputs nursing orders into the computer.
  • Keeps nursing charts organized; maintains forms and supplies.

We welcome all healthcare professionals to join our thriving community and contribute to our pursuit for clinical excellence.Department:Job Description Summary:Position ResponsibilitiesAnswers and responds to patient request promptly by informing appropriate staff member of patient's request and ensuring effective resolution.Answers telephone before third ring and relays message to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.Performs all secretarial duties in a timeframe consistent with hospital policies and within time allotted. This includes but not limited to:Maintains professionalism in greeting and directing visitors; efficiently handling all deliveries and, providing information in a competent manner.Operates all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and/or hospital policy and procedure and assures timely communication of needed repairs to the appropriate department.Keeps Nurse Director/Team Leader and/or Charge Nurse updated regarding unit issues in a timely manner.Performs newly assigned duties upon completion of training and cooperates in floating while demonstrating positive attitude.Submit ideas for improvements or changes needed to improve department operation.Willingly participates in cross training in order to increase job knowledge and skills.Assists in orientation of new nursing personnel as assigned by charge nurse, team leader or unit director.Performs effectively during crisis or emergency situations by:Prepares chart on each patient including patient test results, patient labeling of all chart materials and accurately inputting nursing orders into the computer system.Keeps chart materials along with associated tabs in order at all times, adding necessary forms with patient's name and medical record number as needed.Transcribes physician orders under the supervision of a Registered Nurse alerting the charge/primary nurse to all stat orders or illegible writing and do not use abbreviations.Enter specimens into computer in a timely manner; calls for SSA to transport specimen to lab.Files printed patient records on chart in a timely manner.Completes all non-computerized forms and requisitions legibly (cytology, blood bank, dietary, etc).Maintains par levels of forms, materials, and supplies.Promotes a professional environment by:Consistently demonstrates etiquette as evidenced by the following:Maintains clean, safe and functional working environment in the nursing unit:Maintains logs for temperature, humidity, refrigerator, eyewash station and fluid/blanket warmers.Maintains updated staff directory.Able to print case cards, resource maps from PHS system and added emergency cases.Print accurate on-call schedules.Initiates all pages to appropriate physicians or other hospital departments logging all calls on telephone call log.Pages correct staff or physician for CPR, Fire, Disaster, etc.Obtain prior medical record upon request.Process patient's chart, making sure that the labels are adhere throughout the medical record and with accuracy strip charts.Disposition patients from the star system on a timely manner.Accurately enters added on cases into computer system, enters data accurately and in a timely manner, Ensure accuracy and appropriateness.Verify on-call schedule on a daily basis.Maintain patients confientiality at all times.Accurately enters patient orders into the computer system.Utilizes overhead paging system when appropriate.Assist callers in locating patients.Operates all equipment in accordance with the manufacture's recommendations and/or hospital policy and procedure and assures timely communications of needed repairs to the appropriate department.QualificationsLicense/Registration/CertificationNoneEducationHigh School or GED equivalent plus medical terminology preferred.Experience1-2 years experience, preferrably within healthcare.Benefits:We believe in the physical and mental well-being of our employees and are committed to offering comprehensive benefits that fit their personal needs:Health benefitsLife insuranceLong-term disability coverageHealthcare spending accountsRetirement planPaid time offPet InsuranceTuition reimbursementEmployee assistance programWellness programOn-site housing for select positions and more!Degree Requirements:Certification:
