Job summary

A healthcare organization in Miami Beach is seeking a full-time Unit Secretary to maintain clinical competence and perform essential administrative duties. Ideal candidates will have a High School Diploma or GED, with 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Responsibilities include handling patient requests, managing records, and ensuring effective communication within the unit. Responsibilities

  • Maintains annual clinical competence in care of surgical patients.
  • Answers and responds to patient requests promptly.
  • Performs all secretarial duties within time allotted.
  • Maintains professionalism in greeting and directing visitors.
  • Operates all equipment according to policy and procedure.
  • Keeps Nurse Director and Charge Nurse updated regarding unit issues.
  • Prepares chart on each patient including test results.
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders under RN supervision.
  • Handles all tasks related to position duties.
  • Performs other duties related to position.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Maintains annual clinical competence in care of surgical patients, administration of vasoactive medications, and telemetry‑monitored patients.
  • Answers and responds to patient request promptly by informing appropriate staff member of patient's request and ensuring effective resolution.
  • Performs all secretarial duties in a timeframe consistent with hospital policies and within time allotted (Maintains records, admission and discharge sheets, transport log, assignment sheets, enters patient information accurately into computer in a timely manner, and physician call log).
  • Maintains professionalism in greeting and directing visitors; efficiently handling all deliveries and providing information in a competent manner.
  • Operates all equipment in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations and/or hospital policy and procedure and assures timely communication of needed repairs to the appropriate department.
  • Keeps Nurse Director/Team Leader and/or Charge Nurse updated regarding unit issues in a timely manner.
  • Performs newly assigned duties upon completion of training and cooperates in floating while demonstrating positive attitude.
  • Prepares chart on each patient including patient test results, patient labeling of all chart materials and accurately inputting nursing orders into the computer system.
  • Keeps chart materials along with associated tabs in order at all times, adding necessary forms with patient's name and medical record number as needed.
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders under RN supervision and immediately notifies the charge or primary nurse of STAT or unclear orders. Avoids the use of abbreviations.
  • All other tasks as related to the position duties.
