Position Summary

Performs a variety of clerical support and other duties to assist the nursing staff in carrying out daily patient care activities. Prepares and maintains patient medical records. Transcribes and expedites physician orders. Functions as a Receptionist. Reports to the Clinical Nurse Manager.

Education/Certification
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED equivalent and knowledge of medical terminology.
Competencies
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively using the English language and have basic personal computer skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meet, greet, and direct all patients, families, visitors, and healthcare team members. Provide accurate and appropriate information.
  • Prepare medical records for ED/PC patients, inpatient admissions, and observation patients. Maintain accurate medical records throughout the visit. Complete unit logs accurately.
  • Transcribe physician orders promptly. Enter orders into the computer system. Prioritize orders with timed or immediate action. Notify appropriate staff or departments.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient requests, including acknowledging patient call bells.
  • Maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and the ability to function under stressful situations.
  • Assess the work environment continually and take initiative to improve workflow, patient throughput, communication, and the environment of care.
  • Answer phones or intercoms promptly and communicate information clearly to the appropriate personnel or family.
  • Communicate effectively with charge nurses, coworkers, and physicians.
  • Perform all aspects of indirect patient care in an environment that promotes patient safety and reduces errors. Place work orders and resolve issues as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to promote efficient unit functioning.
