Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a part-time Unit Secretary for the 4W Cardiac Post Intervention Progressive Care Unit. The role supports the patient care team, coordinates clerical tasks, and helps maintain patient records while serving as a communication link with nursing staff.

Responsibilities include multi-functional support under RN direction, plus environment, dietary, and supply-related tasks. The role requires teamwork, strong organization, and the ability to interact respectfully with patients

Qualifications

High school coursework in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics.
Six months of either direct patient care or clerical office experience with computer access.
Completion of Medical Terminology course with a score of 70% or greater.

Responsibilities

Prepare, compile and maintain patient records and act as receptionist.
Serve as communication link within the patient-care area and support the care team.
Assist with environmental, dietary, transportation, supplies and light maintenance tasks.

Unit Secretary, 4W - Cardiac Post Intervention Progressive Care Unit

Part-Time, 7:00am-3:30pm

24hrs/week, Benefit Eligible

e/o weekend-holiday rotation

Summary

Performs and coordinates a variety of clerical duties, particularly in connection with preparing, compiling and maintaining of patient records; functions as a receptionist and communication link within a patient-care area. Supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities under the direction of Registered Nurse, and patient care support duties related to environmental, dietary, transportation, supplies, and light maintenance activities.

Formal Education Required

High school level coursework in English grammar, composition, and basic mathematics

Experience And Training Required

Six (6) months of either direct patient care experience or clerical office experience which has provided knowledge of utilizing a computer to access information.
Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or equivalent and a score of 70% or greater on a screening medical terminology test.

Level Of Physical Demands

Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
Exposure to blood, body fluids and sharps; risks of falls, strains, contagious diseases, etc. due to location within a health care environment.
