Job summary

Waterview Hills Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Westchester County is hiring a Unit Assistant. This full-time role (35 hours weekly) offers day 7am-3pm and evening 3-11pm shifts with every other weekend rotation.

You will assist with meal service, transport residents, and engage with residents in the activity spaces, while coordinating with nursing staff to meet care needs. Excellent benefits, and competitive new rates are provided.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills.

• Healthcare industry experience preferred, not required.
• Previous experience with geriatric/short term rehabilitation/Alzheimer’s patients desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with meal service, passing and collecting trays, and monitoring day room while engaging with residents.
• Inform Nurse or CNA of resident needs or changes in condition.
• Perform resident transport and set up meals for residents.
• Transport residents to dining areas and assist with seating.
• Assist residents with obtaining meal or snack alternates and opening containers.
• Assist with transport to/from programs and activities.
• Supervise residents in patio area and monitor Community Room.

Unit Assistant Summary

Together, these facilities offer patients the best rehab and nursing care they can obtain.

• Unit Assistant is responsible for assisting with meal service, passing and collecting of trays and monitors day room while engaging with residents, assisting with activities when needed
• Informs the Nurse or CNA of any resident needs (i.e. the need to use the rest room) or of any changes noted in resident’s condition
• Performs resident transport, distributes meal trays and sets up meal in front of the resident assigned by Charge Nurse /Supervisor
• Transport residents to designated dining area for meals and assist seating at appropriate table. Assist with handwashing, distribute beverages, transport residents to designated dining area for meals.
• Assist residents with obtaining meal or snack alternates, opening containers, etc.
• Assist with transport to/from programs back to units to assist activity staff with
• Supervise residents in patio area during nice weather and monitor assigned Community Room and assist residents as needed
• Tidy up resident’s rooms, linen closets, and make bed
• Additional duties may be assigned by nursing administration

Requirements

• Some High School Required
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible
• Must be a team player and willing to help where/when needed.
• Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and disabled.
• Ability to build rapport with patients/residents
• Compassionate and caring demeanor
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and eagerness to help
• Healthcare industry working experience preferred, not required
• Previous experience with geriatric/short term rehabilitation/Alzheimer’s patients is desirable
