Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Unit Assistant + Patient Care Technician for the Same Day Surgery department at UAB ST Vincent's Blount. Schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 3:00 pm, with no on-call, weekends, or holidays required.

Responsibilities include administrative support, patient greeting, and coordination with physicians and clerical staff. The role emphasizes patient communication, chart assembly, and use of order-entry tools; licensure/certification options may replace

Qualifications

• High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of applicable job-specific experience required.
• BLS Provider preferred (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted).
• Licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, file, distribute mail and perform general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families and healthcare team about patient care; schedule appointments.
• Assist physicians/clinicians with order entry, transfers and discharges; assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings and maintain meeting minutes; manage timekeeping and staff schedules.

What You Will Do

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

• Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.
• Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.
• Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Minimum Requirements

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
