Job summary

UAB Medicine's UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham is seeking a patient care technician to perform basic clinical and non-clinical tasks under supervision. The role involves assisting patients with ambulation, ADLs, and maintaining clean rooms while following nursing staff directions.

You will obtain vitals, assist with oxygen setup, Foley care, EKGs, and documentation. requirements include High School diploma equivalency or 1 year of relevant experience and BLS certification within 30 days of hire;

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist patients with ambulation as necessary. This may include helping them to a recliner in their room, walk to the bathroom or down the hall. Assist dismissed patients in getting safely to their vehicles.
• Assist patients with tending to personal care and activities of daily living.
• Reports findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to nursing staff. Documents necessary records.
• Keeps patient rooms clean, orderly, and maintains medical equipment.
• Performs certain technical patient care duties in the hospital as directed by the staff nurse such as oxygen setup, Foley catheter care, pulse oximetry setup, specimen collection and EKGs.
• Obtain and record vitals, weight, and inputs and outputs.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
