Job summary

The University of Central Missouri seeks a lead technician for the Elliott Student Union (ESU) and Union Bowling Center (UBC). Under general supervision, you will coordinate daily work orders, perform semi-skilled trades in carpentry, painting, and minor repairs, and ensure bowling equipment and lane conditions meet USBC and NCAA standards.

You will manage preventative and reactive maintenance, safety inspections, and training of student staff, while maintaining logs of parts, repairs, and costs

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum 1 year of mechanical experience is required.
• Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and painting is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and safety certifications are required or obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Lead technician for ESU; creates, coordinates, tracks, and executes routine and daily work orders.
• Perform general building maintenance across skilled trades (carpentry, painting, flooring, etc.).
• Conduct routine safety inspections and identify hazards in high-traffic spaces.
• Oversee UBC maintenance: mechanical systems, lane conditioning, and equipment reliability; train student staff.

Job description

Under general supervision, serves as the lead technician for the Elliott Student Union (ESU) and Union Bowling Center (UBC). This position oversees, coordinates, and executes daily building work orders in alignment with Facilities Planning & Operations (FPO) standards. Performs a broad range of semi-skilled tasks in carpentry, painting, and minor repairs. Additionally, ensures Union Bowling Center equipment, string pinsetters, and lane conditions comply with USBC and NCAA standards. Considered essential personnel for building emergency response.

Elliott Student Union (ESU) Maintenance & Work Order Management — 75%

• Work Order Lead & Coordination: Serves as the primary lead technician for the Elliott Student Union. Creates, coordinates, tracks, and executes routine and daily work orders throughout the facility in accordance with FPO standards and procedures. Create and submit Service Center work orders for repairs that require specialized, higher-level technical support.

• General Building Maintenance: Performs preventative and reactive maintenance across all skilled trades. Tasks may include repairing floor/carpet tile, patching walls, trim work, stair tread replacement, door closure adjustments, painting, replacing ceiling tiles, changing filters, and assisting with motor/belt replacements.

• Safety & Inspections: Conducts routine floor walk-throughs and inspections to identify safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or needed structural repairs throughout high-traffic spaces throughout the Elliott Student Union.

Union Bowling Center (UBC) Maintenance & Technical Operations — 25%

• Mechanical & Equipment Oversight: Schedules and performs regular preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and major rebuilds on string pin systems, pins, ball returns, bowling balls, automated scoring systems, and related mechanical components.

• Lane Certification & NCAA Standards: Maintains bowling lanes, lane conditioning equipment, and daily oil patterns to meet annual USBC certification requirements and NCAA regulations in support of the UCM Jennies Bowling program practices and competitions.

• Safety & Chemical Compliance: Ensures strict operational compliance with OSHA safety standards, high-voltage equipment safety, and proper handling/disposal of hazardous materials used in bowling operations.

• Staff Training: Trains student employees on machine safety, basic parts identification, and minor malfunction fixes.

• Inventory & Records: Maintains accurate operational logs for parts inventory, repair costs, and machine performance. Identifies replacement parts and prepares purchase requisitions.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent

Experience:

• One (1) year of mechanical experience required
• Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and painting preferred.
• Knowledge of bowling equipment/machines preferred.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to complete required safety and technical certifications.
