Job summary

Mortenson is seeking an Ironworker Apprentice to learn how to and assist journeymen in marking, positioning, and securing structural steel members for concrete or building structures. You will support various assembly tasks, handle materials, and help with steel fabrication and installation under supervision.

The role requires reading safety regs, basic math, teamwork, and physical effort, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Enrollment in Apprenticeship Aptitude Program.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Strong teamwork orientation and good communication.
• Repetitive hand, arm, leg movements.
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling: up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Select, clean, and install reinforcing rods as directed by journeymen.
• Load, transport, unload, and furnish workers with materials, tools, and equipment.
• Clean work area and restock supplies; maintain journeymen’s tools and equipment.
• Assist in lifting, positioning, and securing materials during installation; bend steel; supply wire mesh.
• Measure and mark layout; weld brackets; drill holes; cut and fit metal; bolt, weld, or solder ironwork; verify level and plumbness.
• Bolt newel posts, balusters, and other stair parts; fasten cover plates.
• Receive and offload major components; assist with nacelle, hub, and tower prep; connect blades to hub; set base and tower sections.
• Climb ladders – average 80m; work with diverse teams; perform other duties as assigned.
