Job summary

Veit is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate various construction machines on site or highway projects. You’ll follow safety procedures, perform routine maintenance, and assist in training new staff.

The role requires basic reading of site plans and reliable attendance, with union involvement and flexible hours typical in this work. The position is a full-time on-site role in Minnesota, with travel as needed and union affiliation or willingness to join.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 6–12 months of operating construction equipment experience.
• Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles and ability to operate under varying conditions.
• OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR and safety training required.
• Ability to read and comprehend grade stakes/site plans.
• Good communication skills with management, vendors and colleagues.
• Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios in practical tasks.
• Reliable attendance and dependability as required by project requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy equipment such as graders, bulldozers, scrapers and loaders on site or highway construction.
• Follows OSHA safety procedures and reports issues to the foreman or safety director.
• Performs routine inspection and maintenance on equipment; reports defects.
• Assists in training entry-level staff in maintenance and repair tasks.
• Identifies underground utilities before excavating as required.
• Reviews trenching requirements and ensures protection measures are in place.
• Keeps supervisors informed of actions that affect project operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
