AXIS Capital is seeking an Underwriting Associate – Marine to support underwriting activities, manage renewal processes, and assist with new accounts from submission to contract expiration. You’ll work under underwriting guidance but handle endorsements within your delegated authority.
You will engage with brokers and clients, review files for accuracy, and collaborate with claims teammates while expanding knowledge of IDT and Duck Creek systems.

How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The primary focus of the Underwriting Associate role (about 70%) is to provide comprehensive support for underwriting activities. This includes serving as the main point of contact for designated accounts, managing tasks throughout the renewal process, and assisting with new prospective accounts from initial submission to contract expiration. While guidance from an Underwriter may be available, the Underwriting Associate is responsible for making decisions on accounts and addressing endorsements within their assigned authority. This position also offers opportunities for professional growth and development within both Operations and Underwriting functions.
Gather underwriting information on behalf of the underwriter and complete the underwriting renewal quote and binder documents, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy levels are met.
Accept new/renewal risks, if authorized, with some financial and limit restrictions within agreed underwriting authority limits as applicable.
Complete rating, experience modifications and policy issuance for automatic renewals, within assigned underwriting authority in a timely manner.
Perform quote renewal preparation, which may require underwriting review.
Review renewal files to ensure accuracy and draft rating/pricing recommendation for pre-analysis support, as requested.
Collaborate with claims adjusters, gathering information on specific claims for review with underwriter.
Act as a key resource for understanding complex accounts and changes in endorsements.
Provide subject matter expertise on Insurance Desktop (IDT) and Duck Creek (DC) Support underwriters on day‑to‑day processes when required (though not the primary function).
Assists with quality reviews as needed.
May be assigned special projects that require strong analytical skills.
Actively learn and pursue knowledge about the market, underwriting and business plans, as well as profit drivers.
Provide exceptional customer service to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
Address inquiries and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
Ability to articulate the Line of Business’ strategy and influence broker adoptions of changes.
Communicate effectively with managers and operations support teams regarding complex accounts and changes.
Report issues through business technology ticketing system and ensuring prompt resolution of issue is communicated to impacted parties.
Assists with training and mentoring colleagues as requested.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date underwriting documentation and records.
Ensure adherence to record‑keeping policies and procedures.
Stay informed about regulatory changes and updates affecting the insurance industry.
Ensure compliance with underwriting regulations and standards.
You may also be required to take on additional duties, responsibilities and activities appropriate to the nature of this role.

Embrace the hybrid culture offered at AXIS, you need to be in office 3 days per week. Much of the work involves using computers for data entry, analysis, and communication. Comfort with prolonged screen time is necessary. While much of the work may be desk‑bound, there might be occasions requiring mobility within the office environment, such as attending meetings or accessing filing systems.
For this position, we currently expect to offer a base salary in the range of $57,500 - $95,500. Your salary offer will be based on an assessment of a variety of factors including your specific experience and work location.
In addition, you will be offered competitive target incentive compensation, with awards based on overall corporate and individual performance.
