Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University seeks a System Safety Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Department in the Undersea Systems Office, State College, PA. The role covers safety throughout the lifecycle of ARL undersea systems, from concept through test, interfacing with DoD processes and Navy stakeholders.

You will collaborate across teams, perform safety analyses, and drive hazard mitigation and safe shipping/deployment practices for weapon systems in a highly secure

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Science required.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Learn design and operation of ARL systems with Systems Engineering and Subsystem Design Teams.
  • Perform MIL-STD-882E safety analyses (PHAs, FHAs, RHA, SHAs, SLoR, etc.).
  • Assess documents to ensure safety compliance and mitigate hazards.
  • Participate in anomaly investigations and root-cause analyses.
  • Collaborate with USN counterparts to deliver a safe product.
  • Engage with sponsors, engineering teams, and program management.
