Job summary

Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State is seeking Mechanical Engineers for the Mechanical Systems Design Department. You will design, analyze, build and test hardware for undersea applications, from concept to development, supporting Navy and other agencies.

ARL welcomes transitioning military members and offers on-site work in State College, PA with periodic travel to remote locations. Senior roles include leadership and project management responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience with complex machined components and subsystems.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and tolerances.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze requirements and develop innovative solutions.
  • Design structures, mechanisms, actuation and bearing systems.
  • Collaborate with drafting to create and approve drawings.
  • Develop assembly and test procedures.
  • Work with technicians on assembly and testing of systems and subsystems.
  • Support field testing.
