Job summary

The Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State University seeks highly motivated Systems Engineers to join the Systems Engineering Department in the Undersea Systems Office. The role involves planning and executing in-water and land-based verification activities across the program life cycle, coordinating with program management, subsystem leads, and T&E entities in the U.S.

government. ARL is a DoD SkillBridge partner; training starts on-site in State College, PA, with a hybrid work option based

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science.
  • 14+ years of relevant experience for Senior Professional.
  • 5+ years for Advanced Professional.
  • 2+ years for Intermediate Professional.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, and execute system-level land-based and in-water testing.
  • Develop test plans, procedures, and traceability matrices.
  • Conduct functional, performance, environmental, and integration testing.
  • Analyze test data and provide root-cause recommendations.
  • Prepare technical reports, SITREPs, and briefings.
  • Coordinate test logistics, hardware/software readiness, range resources, data collection, and staffing.
  • Lead Test Readiness Reviews and post-test out-briefs.
  • Serve as on-site Test Director for field events and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Manage test-related risks and develop contingency procedures.
  • Participate in test-related working groups.
  • Lead development and fielding of test-related equipment and support systems.
  • Oversee program-level resource planning and deconfliction.
  • Develop program-level Requirements Verification Matrices.
  • Identify test strategies for emerging or novel capabilities.
  • Support system-of-systems T&E and linking test artifacts to models/requirements.
  • Conducting T&E outside controlled lab settings.
