Job summary

Orion External Careers is hiring a Wet Utility Pipelayer to install underground water mains, sanitary sewers and storm drains. You will lay out, cut, bevel, align, and join pipe according to plans and grade stakes, while collaborating with equipment operators and maintaining safety standards.

The role requires 3+ years in wet utility work, ability to work long shifts (8–12 hours), and strong teamwork with attention to quality and integrity. Training on safety and procedures is provided.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in wet utility or underground pipe installation.
• Knowledge of water, sanitary, and storm sewer systems preferred.
• Able to read blueprints, plans, and grade stakes.
• Knowledge of trenching, shoring, and excavation safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Lay out and install underground pipe per blueprints and grade stakes.
• Cut pipe to length and bevel edges as needed.
• Align and position pipe for proper fit and grade.
• Install and seal joints using appropriate methods.
• Connect pipe sections using clamps, screws, bolts, cement, or welding.
• Assist with manholes, inlets, valves, fittings and related structures.
• Work with equipment operators during excavation and backfilling.
• Check slopes, elevations, and pipe grades to project specs.
• Use hand tools, lasers, and levels for accuracy.
• Maintain trench safety and OSHA compliance.
• Assist with other duties as assigned by Foreman/Superintendent.
