Job summary

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO) seeks an Underground Maintenance Mechanic at the WIPP site in Carlsbad, NM. This union position requires passing safety trainings and maintaining qualifications for field maintenance, including respirator work in contaminated areas.

Role involves maintenance on diesel/electric mobile equipment, hoisting and mining gear, with benefits and pension per the agreement; training and career development available.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or Equivalency is required.
• Four (4) years of relevant mechanical maintenance experience in a commercial or industrial environment or four (4) years of industrial maintenance training/education is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required except in limited circumstances.

Responsibilities

• The Maintenance Mechanic will perform corrective and preventive maintenance on diesel and electric mobile equipment, hoisting equipment, mining equipment, and waste handling equipment at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant.
• Candidate will be required to attain and maintain the qualifications and training necessary to perform field maintenance, follow all safety procedures, regulations and policies, and promptly report any hazards or unsafe conditions to management.
• Must maintain qualifications and training to perform assigned duties and must be able to pass a Pulmonary Function Test to qualify and work in a respirator in contaminated areas.
