Job summary

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO) seeks an Underground Maintenance Coordinator for the WIPP site in Carlsbad, NM. You will support maintenance managers, develop work instructions, and assist with procedures while researching schematics as needed.

Ideal candidates will be able to act as Field Work Supervisors, pass required health tests, and work in contaminated areas following all safety guidelines. DOE security requirements and TIM considerations apply to placement.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of relevant experience, or High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of relevant experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site.
  • TIM positions require adherence to DOE O 426.2A requirements.

Overview

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Underground Maintenance Coordinator and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the Underground Maintenance Managers and Supervisors. Support planned work activities by helping with the development of work instructions and procedures needed for work performance including documented changes as required for work being actively performed in the field. May be required to help research schematics and/or manuals for the materials. Be qualified and able to fill in as Field Work Supervisors (FWS) when needed which includes passing a Pulmonary Function Test and qualify wearing and working in a respirator. Must be willing to work in the Contaminated area. Performing routine tasks including following all safety procedures, regulation, and policies. Conduct frequent underground inspections of work areas to assure that safe conditions are maintained. Complete and maintain training as required to perform work in accordance with site policies and procedures and any other task related to supporting underground maintenance operations.

Education And Experience
  • Associate’s degree with two (2) years of relevant experience, or
  • High School Diploma or Equivalency with four (4) years of relevant experience is required.

  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.
  • This position is included in the Training Implementation Matrix (TIM) which defines requirements for personnel selection, training, qualification and certification requirements at DOE Nuclear Facilities. Individuals applying to TIM positions will be evaluated in accordance with DOE O 426.2A, and may need to provide additional information and/or receive concurrence from the DOE for placement. Preferred Requirements
  • Preference given to candidates with experience using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (preferably CHAMPS).
  • DOE nuclear experience is desired.
  • Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.
Salary Range

$70,972 to $123,573 per year. Exempt grade level(s) 28-30. The specific salary offered to a candidate will be influenced by a variety of factors, particularly the candidate’s relevant experience and education.
