Job summary

On Trac Communications, LLC seeks an Underground Fiber Broadband Technician to install fiber drops and splice to homes/offices using underground methods. You will be punctual, communicate proactively, and provide respectful, patient explanations to ensure a best-in-class customer experience.

The role requires hands-on use of test equipment, reading work orders, and a willingness to work evenings or weekends in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year of prior cable installation experience preferred.
  • Strong computer, network, and electronics skills; tablet apps.
  • Excellent communication; explain technical info clearly.
  • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and wiring/cabling.
  • Ability to use test equipment and interpret results.
  • Able to analyze problems and solve with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Positive, solutions-oriented attitude with task prioritization.
  • Valid driver’s license; insurable under company policy.
  • Background check required; safety-sensitive position; testing.
  • Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Install broadband internet to homes/offices; test & troubleshoot.
  • Answer homeowner questions clearly and patiently.
  • String/pull cables between poles/underground for signal quality.
  • Use test equipment to ensure signal strength.
  • Process work orders before heading out with required tools.
  • Review work orders and photos for quality before leaving.
  • Maintain company vehicle interiors/exteriors; report issues.
  • Follow driving/safety laws and company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Pay Ranges
  • Technician I – Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
  • Technician II – Pay Range: $25.00 - $29.00 per hour
  • Technician III – Pay Range: $29.00 - $34.00 per hour

Position Overview

The Underground Fiber Broadband Technician installs a fiber drop and splices it to customers’ homes and offices via underground techniques. The technician is punctual, communicates proactively, is prepared for the task, and provides respectful, patient, and thorough explanations of the services installed to ensure a best‑in‑class customer experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install broadband internet to customers’ homes and offices; test and troubleshoot equipment and connections to ensure proper functioning.
  • Thoroughly and patiently answer all homeowner questions, if applicable.
  • String and pull cables between poles and underground as necessary to ensure the strongest signal and best positioning.
  • Utilize test equipment to ensure signal strength and connection.
  • Process work orders prior to heading out, ensuring you have all necessary equipment and tools.
  • Review work orders and work performed, submitting all necessary client information and pictures prior to leaving the premises to ensure quality completion.
  • Clean and maintain the interior and exterior of company vehicles, communicating any performance or maintenance issues to the Manager and Fleet Director.
  • Adhere to driving and safety laws and company policies at all times.
  • Other projects or duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year of previous cable installation experience preferred.
  • Strong computer, network, and electronics skills and knowledge; ability to utilize applications on a tablet device.
  • Excellent communication skills are required; ability to clearly, professionally, and effectively communicate technical information to a diverse audience.
  • Knowledge and experience with hand tools and wiring/cabling required.
  • Ability to utilize test equipment and interpret test results.
  • Ability to analyze and identify problems and quickly solve issues with minimum supervision.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Positive, solutions‑oriented attitude with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills; ability to organize and prioritize tasks to completion in a fast‑paced environment while ensuring meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Current valid driver’s license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy.
  • The selection process includes a comprehensive background investigation.
  • This is a safety‑sensitive position; employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance and Alcohol testing.
  • Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting, standing, operating, and working with technical equipment and tools.
  • Ability to drive a vehicle for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to work in a non‑climate‑controlled environment and in inclement weather.
  • Ability to utilize hand tools, identify wire size/color and accurately use measuring devices.
  • Ability to complete tasks with small components and wires.
  • Ability to work from heights such as bucket trucks and ladders.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable and sustained use of arms, legs, and the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, lifting/handling of materials up to 75 lbs, and safely negotiating elevated work and small spaces; must be able to wear required PPE.
