Job summary

Benedictine University seeks student employees who excel in mathematics to tutor peers at the Lisle campus. The role supports courses such as Mathematics for Everyday Life, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Business Calculus and Calculus 1, under the supervision of the Math Learning Specialist.

Responsibilities include answering student questions, reinforcing concepts, and guiding peers through problem-solving strategies. This is a part-time, on-site position with flexible hours (4 hours per week).

Qualifications

  • Must have completed the course you will tutor with a grade of B or above.
  • Must submit a resume.
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from Benedictine professor who taught you the course; email to mflattum@ben.edu.
  • Must be a currently enrolled Benedictine student in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide tutoring by answering questions from listed math courses.
  • Assist students in understanding concepts and problem-solving steps.

Job Title: Undergrad Student Employee - Math Peer Tutor

Department: Academic Support

Reports to: Math Learning Specialist, Marian Flattum

Rate: IL State minimum wage

Location: Lisle Campus

Position Summary: Seeking students that have taken and exceled in math courses to provide tutoring for Mathematics for Every Day Life, College Algebra, Trigonometry, Business Calculus, and Calculus 1.

1. Provide support by answering student questions from math courses listed above.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have completed the course forwhich you will be tutoring at Benedictine University with grade of B or above.
  • Must submit a resume.
  • Mustsubmit a letter of recommendation from a Benedictine professor who taught youthe course. Instruct the professor to email recommendation to mflattum@ben.edu.
  • Must be a currently enrolled Benedictine student in good standing.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Use of computer screen, phone and customer service.

May require bending or sitting for long periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The following of campus specific guidelines for pandemic protocols is required.

Training: As a University employee you are required to complete all University-specific and/or OSHA related training to fulfill your job duties. Specific training will be conducted online or in person. Employees must complete all trainings required by Benedictine University.
