Adjunct Lecturer - Mathematics

Department: Mathematical and Computational Sciences

Rate: $1400 per contact hour (with a terminal degree) and $1200 per contact hour (without a terminal degree). This compensation is per contact hour and is subject to change based on class size.

Brief overview ofduties:Benedictine University is seekingexperienced and academically qualified adjunct instructors to teach 1-3introductory level mathematics lecture courses in Lisle, IL each semester.Common course offerings include College Algebra, College Trigonometry,Mathematics for Everyday Life, Mathematics for Elementary Teachers, andBusiness Calculus, with Calculus Statistics, and Discrete Mathematics offeredon an as-needed basis.

Most course offerings are in-person at our Lisle, IL campus, though occasional teaching opportunities may be available online. Preference will be given to candidates who can teach in-person at our Lisle, IL campus.

Essential job responsibilities:
  • 1. Instruct students in assigned mathematics courses, including designing and delivering lecture materials, homework assignments, and in-class work.
  • 2. Answer e-mails and meet with students as needed for help.
  • 3. Evaluate student work in a timely fashion.
  • 4. Communicate regularly with Department Chair and course coordinator as needed.
Required Qualifications:

Education: A Master’s Degree in Mathematics orMathematics Education (or a Master’s degree with at least 18 hours ofgraduate-only coursework in mathematics) is required. A Ph.D. in Mathematics orMathematics Education is preferred.

Experience: 1-3 years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.

Candidates who are offered an adjunct faculty position at Benedictine University must present their Official Transcripts and Curriculum Vitae (CV) in order to be considered for the position.These items must be presented to Human Resources before the position starts.

Physical Requirements

Whileperforming the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talkor hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands totouch, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
This position requires the ability tooccasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Use of computer screen, phone andcustomer service.
May require bending, or sitting for longperiods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include closevision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception andability to adjust focus.

Training
