Job summary

Cobb County School District is seeking a Tutor, Title I, MS Math to provide targeted instruction to struggling middle school students, focusing on math improvement. This temporary, on-site role reports to the Title I Supervisor and works as needed on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor degree with a valid Georgia teaching certificate and classroom experience, especially with remedial students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required.
• Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate required.
• Classroom experience required; working with remedial students preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly and organize effectively.
• Knowledge of 6-8th grade math.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
• Provides academic assistance in the student's area of greatest need on a regular basis.
• Collaborates with the student's teacher concerning student academic needs.
• Engages students in appropriate academic activities.
• Helps students develop strong study skills.
• Establishes and maintain rapport with students.
• Maintains record of student's progress.
• Provides evaluations and other reports as requested by Title I Department in a timely manner.
• Reports tutoring hours to an assigned Tutor contact.
• Participates in scheduled meetings.
• Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.
• This is a tutoring position for Tuesday Wednesday Thursday only.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provides instruction for struggling students to enable them to improve academic achievement in math.

Requirements

• Educational Level: Bachelor Degree required
• Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate
• Experience: Classroom experience required; working with remedial students preferred
• Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
• Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Written and oral communication; motivated, well-organized, student management, knowledge of 6-8th grade math

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
