The role focuses on strengthening foundational skills in reading, math, and writing, while supporting students’ growth through individualized learning plans and progress monitoring. The ideal candidate has at least an Associate’s degree in Education, 2+ years of tutoring experience, and a passion for equity in education.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Education or related field required; Bachelor’s preferred.
  • Minimum of two years tutoring or teaching elementary/middle school students.
  • Knowledge of K–8 standards and intervention strategies.
  • Experience in reading and mathematics intervention.
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to pass criminal background and related screenings.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team.

Position Summary

The Tutor is a part-time position responsible for providing high-quality academic tutoring, educational intervention, and homework support for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade. This position focuses on accelerating student learning, strengthening foundational academic skills, and helping students meet or exceed grade-level expectations in reading, mathematics, writing, science, and other core academic subjects.

Working in a supportive after-school environment, the Tutor develops individualized learning strategies, monitors student progress, and collaborates with families, teachers, and program staff to ensure every student receives the support needed to succeed academically.

Essential Responsibilities
Academic Tutoring & Student Achievement
  • Provide high-quality individual and small-group tutoring for students in grades K–8.
  • Deliver targeted instruction in reading, mathematics, language arts, science, and homework support.
  • Assess students' academic strengths and areas for growth to develop individualized learning strategies.
  • Reinforce classroom instruction while helping students master grade-level standards and foundational skills.
  • Assist students with homework completion, study habits, organization, and test preparation.
  • Utilize differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learning styles and academic abilities.
  • Encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.
  • Build students' academic confidence through positive reinforcement and measurable goal setting.
  • Support students who are performing below grade level with focused academic interventions designed to improve learning outcomes.
Academic Enrichment & Learning Activities
  • Plan and facilitate engaging academic enrichment activities that reinforce classroom learning.
  • Integrate literacy, STEM, financial literacy, and project-based learning opportunities into tutoring sessions.
  • Utilize educational technology, digital learning platforms, and interactive instructional tools to enhance learning.
  • Create a structured, organized, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic success.
  • Encourage reading comprehension, writing development, mathematical reasoning, and scientific inquiry through hands‑on activities.
Student Progress Monitoring
  • Monitor student attendance, participation, and academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions, assessments, and student growth.
  • Administer informal academic assessments and utilize data to guide instruction.
  • Communicate student progress with supervisors, school personnel, and families as appropriate.
  • Prepare reports documenting student outcomes and program effectiveness.
Student Engagement & Mentorship
  • Foster a positive learning environment where students feel safe, respected, and motivated to learn.
  • Serve as a positive role model who promotes responsibility, perseverance, and academic excellence.
  • Encourage positive behavior, collaboration, and respectful communication.
  • Build trusting relationships with students that support both academic and personal growth.
  • Promote regular attendance and active participation in academic programming.
Collaboration & Family Engagement
  • Collaborate with teachers, school administrators, parents, and program staff to support student achievement.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional learning opportunities, and program planning sessions.
  • Share instructional strategies and resources that improve academic outcomes.
  • Maintain open communication with families regarding student progress and learning goals.
Qualifications
Required
  • Associate's degree in Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Minimum of two years of experience tutoring or teaching elementary or middle school students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of K–8 academic standards and instructional strategies.
  • Experience supporting students in reading and mathematics intervention.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Passion for helping students achieve academic success.
  • Ability to successfully pass criminal background, child abuse registry, and drug screening requirements.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Georgia Teaching Certificate or current teacher certification.
  • Experience providing academic intervention or Response to Intervention (RTI) support.
  • Experience working in after-school or extended learning programs.
  • Knowledge of literacy and math intervention strategies.
  • Experience using educational technology and online learning platforms.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Job Type & Compensation
  • Job Type: Part-time
  • Pay Range: $32.00 - $35.00 per hour
  • Benefits: 401(k) plan available for part-time and full-time employees (not applicable for seasonal staff).
