Job summary

Selby Jennings in New York is seeking Associates, Senior Associates and/or VPs with 2-8 years of experience to support turnaround and restructuring engagements. You will work directly with senior team members to diagnose distress, develop actionable solutions, and implement restructuring strategies.

Roles involve building financial models (3-statement, cash flow), participating in in-court and out-of-court processes (Chapter 11, DIP financing, 363 sales), and preparing client deliverables.

Qualifications

  • 2-8 years of full-time experience in turnaround & restructuring consulting, investment banking (M&A, leveraged finance, or restructuring), or distressed investing.
  • Strong exposure to distressed companies, bankruptcy processes, or restructuring preferred.
  • Experience building financial models (3-statement, cash flow, LBO) & analyzing complex financial data.
  • Understanding of corporate finance, capital structures, and valuation methodologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with M&A transactions, restructurings, or financing processes.
  • Strong communication skills with senior stakeholders in high-pressure environments.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics (MBA or advanced degree a plus).
  • CPA, CFA, or CIRA designations are a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, including 13-week cash flow forecasts and 3-statement models.
  • Conduct financial and operational analyses to identify distress drivers and turnaround opportunities.
  • Support development and execution of restructuring strategies, including capital structure adjustments.
  • Assist in in-court (Chapter 11) and out-of-court processes, including DIP financing and 363 sales.
  • Participate in distressed M&A and recapitalization, including diligence support and investor presentations.
  • Communicate with management, lenders, creditors, legal advisors, and investors to drive alignment.
  • Prepare client deliverables and internal memoranda summarizing findings and recommendations.
  • Work with senior team members on multiple engagements in a lean environment.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking Associates, Senior Associates, and/or VPs (2-8 years of experience) to support the execution of turnaround and restructuring engagements. Candidates will work directly with senior team members and client stakeholders to diagnose financial distress, develop actionable solutions, and implement restructuring strategies.

These roles offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on exposure to distressed situations, M&A processes, and bankruptcy proceedings while developing deep financial and operational expertise in a fast-paced advisory environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models, including 13-week cash flow forecasts, 3-statement models, and scenario analyses to assess liquidity and enterprise value
  • Conduct comprehensive financial and operational analyses to identify key drivers of distress and turnaround opportunities
  • Support the development and execution of restructuring strategies, including cost optimization, capital structure adjustments, and liquidity management initiatives
  • Assist in both in-court (Chapter 11) and out-of-court restructuring processes, including exposure to DIP financing, 363 sales, and liability management situations
  • Participate in distressed M&A and recapitalization processes, including preparation of marketing materials, investor presentations, and diligence support
  • Communicate with key stakeholders, including company management teams, lenders, creditors, legal advisors, and investors, to drive alignment and execution
  • Prepare client deliverables, presentations, and internal memoranda summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Work closely with senior team members on multiple concurrent engagements in a lean, team-oriented environment
Qualifications
  • 2-8 years of full-time experience in one or more of the following:
    • Turnaround & restructuring consulting
    • Investment banking (M&A, Leveraged Finance, or Restructuring)
    • Distressed/special situations investing or credit
  • Strong exposure to distressed companies, bankruptcy processes, or restructuring situations preferred
  • Experience building financial models (3-statement, cash flow, LBO) & analyzing complex financial data
  • Understanding of corporate finance, capital structures, and valuation methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience working on M&A transactions, restructurings, or financing processes
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with senior stakeholders in high-pressure environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field (MBA or advanced degree is a plus)
  • CPA, CFA, or CIRA designations are a plus but not required

Expected Compensation:

Base Salary: $120k - $180k

Discretionary Bonus: 50% - 10%
