Job summary

Centerline Logistics seeks an experienced tug captain to oversee the safe transportation of assigned barge(s), supervise crew, and ensure compliance with regulations on the U.S. West Coast.

You will lead drills, schedule maintenance, and manage provisioning, while training mates and deckhands in safe procedures. This role requires federally recognized licensure, CPR/First Aid, and HAZWOPER readiness within 90 days.

Qualifications

• Must have captains experience on a tug.
• Coast Guard radar observer endorsement required.
• First aid/ CPR certificate required.
• HAZWOPER training completed within 90 days of hire.
• Towing endorsement for oil barges.
• Ability to train mate and deck hand in safe duties.
• Ability to read, speak, and understand English.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
• Ability to conduct inspections and monitor tug/barge maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Stand wheelhouse watches underway.
• Direct crew in drills.
• Determine need for and assign lookouts as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
• Prepare, monitor, and update vessel work lists and maintenance schedules.
• Assign work projects for crew.
• Ensure all crewmen are performing their duties.
• Purchase food for crew.
• Prepare material requisitions and monitor supplies.
• Other duties as assigned.
