TRUCK MECHANIC

LOCATION: DUBUQUE IA

DIRECT HIRE PERM-45-50 hours plus some Saturdays

WAGE: $30-$34/hour

A truck mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the company’s fleet—often including log trucks, semis, trailers, and sometimes loaders or forklifts used in hardwood operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance (oil changes, filters, brake checks)
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, and drivetrains
• Maintain hydraulic systems (common on logging trucks and trailers)
• Inspect and repair braking systems and suspensions
• Troubleshoot electrical and diagnostic systems
• Ensure vehicles meet DOT safety regulations
• Keep maintenance records and logs
• Respond to road calls or emergency repairs when trucks break down

Typical Equipment You’ll Work On

• Class 7–8 diesel trucks (Peterbilt, Kenworth, etc.)
• Log trailers and flatbeds
• Forklifts or yard loaders
• Chainsaws or smaller mechanical tools (sometimes)

Requirements

• Experience with diesel engines (often 2–5+ years preferred)
• Knowledge of hydraulics and air brake systems
• Ability to use diagnostic software/tools
