Job summary

Land O'Frost in Arkansas seeks a skilled Truck/Diesel Mechanic to maintain Class 8 tractors, perform diagnostics, and execute repairs to keep the fleet DOT-compliant and on the road. Growth through in-house training is offered.

You will perform PMs, diagnose brakes, air and electrical systems, change tires, and log work hours in our fleet system. CDL is preferred but not required; tool and safety responsibilities included.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in Class 8 tractor repair.
  • Working knowledge of electronic diagnostic tools used for engine, transmission, and electrical system troubleshooting.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including entering work orders, parts usage, and repair notes into a computerized maintenance system.
  • Class A or B CDL preferred but not required.
  • Must supply standard hand tools and provide secure storage; company supplies diagnostic equipment and shop machinery.
  • Able to safely operate power tools, welders, cutting torches, air tools, and heavy shop machinery.
  • Working knowledge of DOT/FMCSA inspection standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance: oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacement, and scheduled PM inspections.
  • Diagnose and repair brakes, air systems, and electrical systems on tractors.
  • Change tires.
  • Fuel trucks as needed; shuttle trucks in and out of the shop.
  • Diagnose, repair, or replace engines, transmissions, and rear ends.
  • Inspect and repair equipment to D.O.T. specifications; complete required inspection documentation.
  • Log completed work, parts used, and labor hours in the fleet maintenance system.
  • Handle washing and cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with SDS guidelines.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and safe.
  • Work extended hours when needed and respond to after-hours emergency repair calls.

Position Summary

The Truck Mechanic performs preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair on Class 8 tractors to keep the fleet safe, DOT-compliant, and on the road. Growth and additional responsibility are supported through in-house training.

Physical Requirements
  1. Lift up to 100 pounds periodically (up to 20 times per day); lift up to 50 pounds regularly throughout the shift.
  2. Stand up to 85% of a 10-hour shift.
  3. Lie on a creeper up to 50% of a 10-hour shift.
  4. Squat, push, pull, bend, and walk throughout a 10-hour shift.
  5. Work in close proximity to running machinery and moving equipment.
  6. Most work is performed in the shop, which is equipped with jumbo ceiling fans.
Schedule & Benefits

Pay: Commensurate with experience.

Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts weekly (4x10); occasional after-hours and on-call repair calls as needed.
