Schedule/hours: Tuesday-Saturday 9:00 a.m. -5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week)This position is responsible for:Receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards.Key Responsibilities:Sorting Room Worker Responsibilities:Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.Select items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate areas for further sorting, pricing or discarding items in accordance with established procedures.Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices in accordance with established procedures. Hangs clothes on hangers and places same on clothes racks.Prepare non-suitable clothes for the bailer.Lifts and carry items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store. Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables and work areas.Truck Helper Responsibilities:Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items; assists in navigating drivers to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same. Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Anny.Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.Loads trucks of items to be taken to the dump.Deliver appliances and furniture purchased by customers.Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements.Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.Moderate mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
