Job summary

The Salvation Army in Vero Beach, FL is seeking a Full Time Regular driver/helper to pick up donations, load items, and deliver as needed. You will follow a scheduled route, inspect donations for acceptance, and maintain fuel and vehicle safety standards.

No formal education is required; six months of lifting/heavy item hauling experience is preferred. Strong English communication and map-reading skills are essential, with occasional outdoor work involved.

This position is responsible for:

Key Responsibilities

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
• Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
• Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
• Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
• Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.
• Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
• Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOUEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
