Job summary

The Salvation Army A Georgia Corp in Florida seeks a full-time driver/delivery helper to support donation pickups and deliveries in Vero Beach. You will ride in a Salvation Army truck on scheduled routes, inspect items, lift and load items, issue receipts, and help keep the warehouse organized and safe.

No formal education is required; six months of experience lifting heavy items is preferred. Valid driver's license may be required; training provided. Benefits include PTO and health plan options.

Responsibilities

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items and assists the driver with navigation.
• Inspects donated items briefly for acceptability according to policies and explains items that cannot be accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and hauls donations into the truck and packs them to maximize space and protect items.
• Prepares donation receipts and ensures accuracy and completeness.
• Maintains good relationships with donors to promote a positive image of The Salvation Army.
• Unloads donations at the warehouse and distributes items to appropriate locations.
• Loads items to be taken to the dump and delivers appliances and furniture sold to customers.
• Performs routine truck maintenance and checks fluid levels; may assist with repairs as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
• Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
• Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
• Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.
• Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
• Loads truck of items to be taken to the dump.
• Delivers appliances and furniture purchased by customers.
• Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Ability to meet attendance requirements.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
• Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions.
• Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects.
• Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.
• Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
