Job summary

The Salvation Army in Lafayette, LA is seeking a Part-Time Donation Driver Helper. This role assists in picking up donations, loading into the truck, and unloading at the warehouse, while helping the Truck Driver navigate routes.

Responsibilities include preparing receipts, maintaining donor relations, and ensuring safety and accountability of donations. Physical work involves lifting 25–50 lbs and working in a general warehouse setting.

Qualifications

• Six months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture.
• Valid Driver’s License and eligible driver status under TSA Driver Program.
• No formal education required.

Responsibilities

• Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route to pick up donated items and loads them into the truck.
• Assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading maps or directions.
• Prepares donation receipts and ensures accuracy and completeness.
• Unloads donations at the warehouse and distributes items to the appropriate locations.
• Maintains the vehicle and follows safety procedures; promotes a positive image with donors.

Schedule/Hours: Monday-Friday – 10:00am – 3:30pm Part-TimeThis position is responsible for:Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standardsKey Responsibilities:Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.Maintains good relationship with donors to promote a favorable image of The Salvation Army.Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Manual dexterity. Ability to sit, walk, and stand on a frequent change basis in order to perform the duties of this position. Ability to lift objects weighing between 25-50 lbs.
