Job summary

Salvation Army Corp is seeking a driver to operate a heavy-duty truck for scheduled pickups and merchandise deliveries. You will plan efficient routes, ensure safe loading and unloading, and maintain accurate handling of donated items.

The role requires a valid CDL or equivalent license, at least one year of driving large vehicles, and the ability to work outdoors in varying weather. PTO and health benefits are included as employee perks.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year of experience driving a heavy-duty truck or large van.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to lift and move heavy donations and merchandise.
• Basic vehicle maintenance awareness and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Drive Salvation Army truck along scheduled routes to pick up donations and deliver merchandise.
• Organize routes to minimize time and fuel consumption.
• Inspect items for acceptance according to policies and explain items that cannot be accepted.
• Unload donations at the warehouse and distribute to appropriate locations.
• Maintain truck in good condition and ensure maintenance is up to date.
• Assist in warehouse/store duties as needed.

Schedule/Hours: Monday-Saturday/Hours VariesThis position is responsible for:Drives Salvation Army truck along scheduled routes to pick-up donations and/or deliver merchandise to customers. Operates the truck in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations. Lifts, carries, loads and unloads variety of donations including furniture, appliances, clothing, etc. Ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times. Assists in performing work in the family store and warehouse.Key Responsibilities:Review scheduled pick-ups to ensure they are scheduled for the correct day of the week and geographical location.Organize scheduled pick-ups by most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption.Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.Ensures the truck meets the scheduled maintenance and performs operators' maintenance in accordance with established standards.Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Work requires riding in a vehicle daily with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies, and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility: duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.Work is performed in a stockroom, warehouse, or store environment where there are discomforts associated with changes in weather; there are occasional discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.Employee Benefits:PTOHealth BenefitsHigh School diploma or G.E.D.
