Job summary

North Slope Borough is seeking a dedicated truck driver with at least one year of experience and a valid Alaska CDL with N endorsement for hauling liquids in bulk. The role requires completion of Hazwoper training within the probation period and adherence to immunization requirements.

The position involves maintaining logs, performing inspections, and assisting with vehicle maintenance while upholding safety standards and customer service in a demanding Arctic environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• One year of truck driving experience preferred.
• Valid Alaska CDL with N Endorsement (tank) required.
• Must obtain 40-Hour Hazwoper certification within probation.
• Documentation of immunizations may be required prior to employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain truck log, inspection forms, maintenance records and daily trip reports.
• Supervise loading and unloading of truck; may load/unload and perform Waste Collector duties.
• Inspect and clean equipment and facility; report maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.
• Comply with all safety rules and regulations; attend safety meetings.
• May work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, holidays and weekends.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Pumps sewage from septic tanks to pump truck; lifts and carries liquid waste and trash from homes to collection trucks; collects trash from public sites; delivers water as directed.

Maintain truck log, truck inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.

Supervises loading and unloading of truck; may load or unload truck as needed, and perform the duties of a Waste Collector.

Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.

Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of vehicles.

Comply with all safety rules and regulations.

Must be polite and courteous to the public.

Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Documentation of adequate Diphtheria Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Tetanus Immunization prior to employment;

Documentation of Hepatitis A vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose six months after;

Documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination series with the first dose prior to employment, the second dose two months after and the final dose six months after the first dose;

One year of truck driving experience;

Valid Alaska Commercial Driver's License with N Endorsement Code (hauling liquids in bulk (tank)) that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.

Ability to obtain 40-Hour Hazwoper certification within the probationary period.
