Qualifications

• Required certifications: IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800; CPR, AED, and Basic First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment and machinery in accordance with safety regulations and procedures.
• Maintain roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.
• Inspect vehicles and equipment prior to operations; complete shift inspection checklist.
• Maintain vehicle logs, inspection forms, maintenance records and daily trip reports.
• Inspect and clean equipment and facility; report maintenance needs to supervisor.
• Load and unload aircraft with heavy equipment.
• May work non-traditional hours including evenings, holidays, weekends, and 24-hour on-call status.
• Attend required safety meetings; perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Summary or Purpose

This position’s minimal requirement is a valid U.S. Driver’s License. This position is not subject to the Department of Transportation (DOT) and alcohol testing regulations under 49 CFR Part 382 because the position does not require a U.S. Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and the vehicles operated for this role do not meet the definition of a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) under 49 CFR 390.5. Conditional: If an employee has a US CDL under this position and is expected to casually, intermittently or occasionally drive a vehicle meeting the CMV definition the employee will be subject to Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol testing regulations under 49 CFR Part 382 and 49 CFR Part 40.

All Borough employees who occupy positions where federal law mandates testing shall comply with the requirements of the federal regulations and will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion return to duty and follow-up testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment and other machinery in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.

Maintains and clears roads, airport runway and access roads, and landfill areas.

Inspects vehicles and equipment prior to operations; completes shift inspection checklist.

Maintain vehicle log, inspection forms, maintenance record and daily trip reports.

Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.

Loads and unloads aircraft with heavy equipment.

Must be polite and courteous to the public.

May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.

Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.

Village travel as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.

Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in heavy equipment operation.

Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required

High School graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.

Valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.

Required to obtain Incident Command System (IS) 100, IS 200, IS 700, IS 800

Required to obtain CPR, AED and Basic First Aid Certifications

One year of experience with heavy equipment operations and maintenance.
