Responsibilities

  • Perform DOT daily inspections of tires, lights, brakes, etc.
  • Secure cargo and maintain truck logs per regulations.
  • Identify causes of operating errors and take corrective action.

Job Purpose

Drives truck with capacity of more than three tons to transport materials to and from specified destinations.

Roles, Duties, & Responsibilities
  • Drives truck to destination, applying knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.
  • Watches gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure the truck is working properly.
  • Prepares receipts for loads picked up.
  • Maintains telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive instructions.
  • Loads and unloads truck.
  • Performs DOT Daily Inspection to include inspecting tires, lights, brakes, fuses, and fluid levels.
  • Signals directions and warnings to coworkers.
  • Performs miscellaneous side work using hand tools.
  • Positions blocks and ties rope around items to secure cargo during transit.
  • Maintains truck logs, according to state and federal regulations.
  • Determines the causes of operating errors and decides what to do about it.
  • Adheres to all Hunter Contracting Co. safety policies, procedures, and instructions from management.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Work Qualifications
  • Must practice good safety habits.
  • Must have a Class “A” Certified Drivers License.
  • Knowledge of commercial driving regulations and area roads.
  • Ability to read and interpret road maps.
  • Ability to meet set standards for hauling and scheduling.
  • Ability to judge distances and weights accurately and make decisions based on verifiable standards.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of structures, highways, or roads.
Education & Work Experience Requirements
  • Class “A” Certified Drivers License; AND,
  • One (1)+ years of experience in operation of power construction equipment; OR,
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
