Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Tree Crew Laborer for its Facilities Management department. The role supports landscape services across campus, performing unskilled manual tasks, loading/unloading, debris removal and site safety setup.

You will assist skilled crews with materials, operate landscape tools and help maintain campus shrub beds and hardscape. Under supervision, you’ll handle timekeeping and communications, engage with campus customers, and contribute to a clean, sustainable landscape.

Qualifications

• Experience assisting a landscape or general horticulture crew performing unskilled manual tasks.
• Experience safely operating landscape maintenance tools (mowers, edgers, blowers, trimmers, chainsaws).
• Experience safely operating landscape equipment (stump grinders, brush chippers, tractors).
• Demonstrated ability to operate large vehicles (stump grinders, dump trucks, tractors).
• Basic computer skills and familiarity with work order systems and email.
• Basic knowledge of recycling standards and safety procedures.
• Effective communication with supervisors, staff and campus community.
• Ability to handle high volume work and changing priorities.
• Punctuality, attendance and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload trucks and other vehicles; clean outdoor areas and remove debris.
• Assist skilled workers by hauling, carrying and lifting materials and equipment.
• Set up safety zones with cones and barricades; operate power tools safely.
• Collect recyclables and maintain recycling and litter sites across campus.
• Maintain shrub beds and planted areas; perform light trimming and weeding.
• Keep walkways and roadways clear; provide courteous customer service.
• Use CMMS and mail systems to access assignments and timekeeping.
