Hours of Work: 4/10's, hours and shifts may vary. Must be willing to work rotating shifts for training. Shifts are selected by seniority, most likely on the weekend shift, and are subject to on-call duties after hours.
Ideal Candidate: Should have knowledge of water operations, including electrical and mechanical principles related to pumps, motors, and valves. Understanding of regulations under the Safe Drinking Water Act, such as the Surface Water Treatment Rule, Lead and Copper Rule, Total Coliform Rule, Disinfection Byproduct Rule, and Ground Water Rule, is essential. Ability to obtain a Treatment Operator II certification within 6 months of hire is required. Possession of Treatment Operator I and Laboratory Analyst I certificates at hire is desirable.
Introduction: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates with the strongest skills and experience will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and potential interview. The hired candidate must pass a drug screening, background check, and may need to pass a physical evaluation.
General Purpose: Under supervision, monitor, regulate, and perform operational duties in modern water treatment facilities, including filtration and ozonation processes, and perform related duties as assigned.

Training and Experience: Graduation from high school or G.E.D., supplemented by six college semester units in water treatment or specialized training toward Treatment Operator Certificate II. Experience requirements include four years at a water treatment plant, with at least two as Treatment Operator I, or six years of journey-level experience at a large potable water plant, or a four-year degree in relevant fields including water treatment courses.
