The Town of Oro Valley Water Utility seeks a highly motivated, dependable, results-driven individual with a strong water distribution systems background to work in the Water Distribution Department. The successful candidate will report to the Water Operations Supervisor and collaborate with other water operations staff. Under close supervision of the Water Operations Supervisor, the candidate will operate, maintain, service, and repair the water distribution system and related components.
- Document distribution activities.
- Perform blue staking and preventive maintenance on water distribution systems.
- Research, resolve, and respond to customer inquiries.
- Assist in installing water distribution components including water mains, fire hydrants, meters, and valves.
- Maintain, service, and repair water distribution system components including water mains, ARV/PRV equipment, fire hydrants, valve exercising, and water metering equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, and dump trucks.
- Provide assistance to the meter operations team.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to create and maintain accurate reports and records.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Knowledge of and skills in interpreting applicable Town, State, and Federal statutes, ordinances, codes, rules, and regulations governing water utilities.
- Customer service techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of water distribution components, underground utility construction, materials, and equipment used in operations and maintenance.
- Knowledge of water distribution installation and repair methods.
- Skills in computerized database management.
- Skills in operating and maintaining equipment such as loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and water trucks.
- Ability to transfer knowledge to coworkers and develop their skills.
- Organizational skills to set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of utility experience.
- Grade II Water Distribution certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality or ability to obtain within one year.
- Valid Class D Arizona driver license upon employment start.
- Class A CDL required within 18 months of employment.
- Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
Work Environment & Other Requirements:
- Work performed in indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions, including bad weather and balancing multiple tasks.
- Regular attendance and willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Subject to after-hours call-outs 24/7 and inclusion in an on-call rotation.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
