City of Buffalo is seeking an administrative professional to manage Treasury Division records, assist in budget preparation, and supervise payroll and tax related processes. The role involves handling inquiries from taxpayers, coordinating foreclosures, and ensuring accurate data entry and reporting.
Candidates should have two years of financial account-keeping experience, knowledge of city finances, and strong communication skills.
This is an administrative position involving all activities of the Treasury Division. The incumbent is responsible for fiscal records and transactions pertaining to the Division. Director supervision is received from the Assistant Administrator of Treasury and Collections and supervision is exercised over personnel assigned.
Coordinates and supervises the maintenance of departmental account-keeping records;
Destroys or purges records in accordance with the New York State Guidelines for Retention of Records;
Assists in the preparation of the Treasury budget, makes and submits for review and approval;
Attends In Rem foreclosure sales and supervises the keeping of bids and receipts of deposits on sales;
Researches payments for accurate application to accounts and prepare statements and other documentation related to finding;
Supervises the corrections and adjustments on reports for city taxes, sewer rent and water bills, as well as correcting and adjusting dishonored checks and credit card payments;
Maintains control of bank collateral for bank deposits of the Buffalo Sewer Authority;
Interviews office callers, taxpayers and other individuals giving information regarding taxes, sewer rents, water bills and other departmental matters;
Attends to complaints of taxpayers and makes adjustments as needed;
Distributes city payroll;
Prepares requisitions for equipment, material and supplies used in the department;
Compiles data and statistics on various items, makes recommendations and submits reports on same;
Operates data processing equipment including personal computers, in the use of application programs and the input and retrieval of data;
Performs related duties as required.
Continuous and permanent status in the Department of Administration, Finance, Policy and Urban Affairs as an Administrative Assistant, Associate Account Clerk or Assistant Collection Officer for one (1) year;
OR
Continuous and permanent status in the Department of Administration, Finance, Policy and Urban Affairs as a Junior Collection Officer for five (5) years
In addition, all applicants must have two years of full-time experience in account keeping/financial experience and/or in the preparation of contracts.
