Job summary

Independence Excavating is seeking a Traveling Land Surveyor to prepare and review data for field crews on heavy civil projects. You will verify cut sheets, oversee initial layout at job sites, and provide accurate control lines and elevations for installations.

The role requires five years of surveying experience, proficiency with Trimble equipment and AutoCAD Civil 3D, and the ability to work both in the field and office under varying weather conditions. Local travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum HS Diploma; additional training preferred.
• At least five years of relevant surveying experience.
• Proficient with Trimble GPS and total station setups.
• Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D required.
• Ability to build surfaces for GPS equipment.
• Strong math and measurement skills.
• Good verbal communication with teams.
• Valid driver's license; travel to job sites.
• Field and office work in all weather; overtime may occur.

Responsibilities

• Produce and verify cut sheets for field crews.
• Oversee initial layout at job sites and monitor progress.
• Provide control lines and elevations for accurate installation.
• Check as-built conditions using surveying techniques.
• Conduct topographic and cross-section surveys as needed.
• Supervise Surveying Technician and Trainee staff.
• Interpret drawings and specifications and apply on site.
