Job summary

American Traveler seeks a Surgical Technologist with 1+ years of experience for a hospital OR position supporting surgical teams on day shifts.

The role requires completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program, BLS through the American Heart Association, and active licensure if applicable. AORN standards and sterile technique are essential, with ability to stand for extended periods and adapt to 3x12-hour day shifts.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Surgical Technologist.
• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program required.
• Active state license required if applicable.
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Working knowledge of AORN standards and sterile/aseptic technique.
• Basic computer skills required, or ability to obtain within 90 days, for online learning and documentation systems.
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods during shifts.

Responsibilities

• Hospital operating room setting supporting a variety of surgical cases.
• 3x12-hour day shift schedule.
• Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse within the perioperative team.
• Participates in Time Out Process including briefings and debriefings.
• Maintains sterile surgical field integrity and provides instrumentation to the surgical team.
• Checks sterile supplies and equipment for proper packaging, processing, and expiration.
• Monitors the sterile field for contamination risks and notifies team of needed corrective action.
• Assists with patient transport, room turnover, and room preparation.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Maintains currency in new surgical technologies, instrumentation, and procedures.
• Must be HIPAA compliant and uphold principles of a Just Culture.
• Cares for patients across all age populations.
