Job summary

American Traveler, LLC. seeks a Certified Surgical First Assistant for CVOR travel assignments in Metairie, LA. The role focuses on cardiac, vascular, and thoracic cases with emphasis on endoscopic vein harvesting and sterile technique.

Candidates must have travel experience, NBSTSA/NCCT or FA certification, BLS, and license as applicable. The schedule is day shift with call and weekend rotations, and a strong emphasis on patient safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year experience as Surgical First Assistant
• Endoscopic vein harvesting experience required
• BLS, NBSTSA or NCCT certifications required
• Travel assignment experience required
• Proficient in vascular/cardiovascular procedures including CABG, EVAR, TAVR, etc.

Responsibilities

• Support CVOR cases including cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries
• Day shift schedule, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with 2 days of call
• Weekend rotation with potential changes to every 3rd/4th weekend
• Assist in cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and transplant surgeries
• Perform first assist duties including clamping, suturing, suctioning, and wound dressings
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and infection control

Job description

American Traveler is seeking a Certified Surgical First Assistant for a CVOR position requiring prior travel experience and endoscopic vein harvesting proficiency.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Surgical First Assistant required
• Endoscopic vein harvesting experience required
• BLS certification required
• NBSTSA or NCCT certification required
• Either Surgical First Assistant (FA) certification required
• Prior travel assignment experience required
• Proficiency in vascular and cardiovascular procedures including AAA repair, CEA, EVAR, TAVR, CABG, ECMO insertion/decannulation, and mitral valve replacement
• Skilled in surgical first assist techniques including tissue dissection, suturing all wound layers, vessel ligation, and saphenous vein harvesting
• Strong knowledge of aseptic technique, isolation precautions/PPE, and sterilization/disinfection practices
• License required if applicable

Responsibilities

• CVOR setting supporting cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgery cases including CABG, aortic aneurysm repair, TAVR, EVAR, and VATS
• Day shift schedule, 5x8 hours, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
• Call requirement of 2 days per week
• Weekend rotation of every other weekend, subject to change to every third or fourth weekend
• Epic charting system used
• Assist in cardiac, vascular, thoracic, and transplant surgery cases including heart, lung resection, and thoracotomy procedures
• Perform surgical first assist duties such as clamping, cauterizing, suctioning, and wound dressing
• Participate in sponge and instrument counts with the circulating nurse
• Maintain strict aseptic and infection control standards throughout procedures
• Local candidates within 75 miles accepted at the local rate regardless of specialty
• Former permanent staff must be separated from the health system for at least 1 year before being eligible for travel assignments
