Job summary
American Traveler Staffing Professionals is hiring an RN for a Night shift in a Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit in Wheeling, WV. The role requires 2+ years of RN experience and NIHSS certification, with skills in telemetry interpretation and EMR usage (EPIC/Sunrise).
You will work 12-hour nights, 36 hours per week, with weekend rotation. The unit has 30 beds (IMU), nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4 to 1:5, and access to support from Hospitalists and Pharmacy.
Qualifications
- Active WV or Compact RN license required.
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips.
Responsibilities
- Care for patients in IMU with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 to 1:5 (up to 1:6).
- Titrate cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetalol, Nitro, Heparin, Lasix).
- Monitor Telemetry strips and respond to changes with Tele Tech support.
- Float to Tele/MedSurg units as needed, with ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7.
- Use EPIC/Sunrise EMR systems and NIhon Kohden telemetry monitors.

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Stepdown/Intermediate Care Unit position requiring 2+ years of experience and NIHSS certification for a night shift assignment.
- Acute care Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) with 30 beds (14 private & 16 semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:4 to 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6
- Uses EPIC and Sunrise EMR systems
- 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, with weekend rotation (4 weekend night shifts per 4-week schedule)
- Self-scheduling available with 4 requested days off per month, provided unit needs are met
- Floating required into Tele or MedSurg units with ratios up to 1:6 or 1:7
- Cares for patients with chest pain, r/o MI, CHF, arrhythmias, post pacer, and pre/post cardiac catheterization
- Manages radial bands and groin checks post-procedure, and monitors patients on Tikosyn therapy
- Uses Nihon Kohden telemetry monitors and must be able to read and interpret own strips despite Tele Tech support
- Titrates drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
- Supported by 24/7 in-house Hospitalist, Intensivist, IV/PICC team, Respiratory Therapy, and Pharmacy
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BSN not required for this position
- Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips
- Must be competent in titrating high-risk cardiac drips
- Unexpired driver's license copy required for consideration
- Charge nurses take a full patient assignment on both day and night shifts
- Unit supported by 2-3 CNAs with ratios of 1:10-12 and a Clinical Assistant
- Floor-specific orientation includes 4 hours with HR followed by 2 days with a preceptor on the unit
- Scrub requirement: navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets, no hoodies
- Holiday coverage may be required but is typically minimal, as perm staff usually cover holidays
- Strict attendance policy allows no more than 2 occurrences (tardies/call-offs) per 13-week contract
- Candidates must reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Local candidates are not accepted for this position
- Travelers who previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before reapplying
- Travelers may not work within the WVU system for longer than one cumulative year without a 2-year break
