Job summary
American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Step Down/PCU night shift position in Columbus, Ohio. Requires at least 1 year of RN experience and an active OH license. The unit focuses onStep Down/PCU with adult and geriatric populations and a variety of surgical cases.

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Step Down/PCU night shift position requiring at least 1 year of experience and an active OH or compact RN license.
- Step Down/PCU unit within a teaching hospital setting
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Common cases include burns, plastic/reconstructive surgery, urology, GYN, ENT, and oral/maxillofacial surgeries
- Special procedures include burn dressings, flap checks, and leech therapy
- Night shift schedule (3x12 hours), 19:00-07:30, 36 hours per week
- Every other or every third weekend required
- Floating required within OSU system
- Any charting system experience accepted
- Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience required
- Nursing education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Skills include IV therapy, arterial line management, central and peripheral line care, blood product administration, and PICC line management
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, and telemetry (unit and remote) required
- Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE required
- Experience with insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips required
- Experience with non-invasive airway management, oxygen administration, and nasal cannula use required
- Experience with surgical drains and substance withdrawal care required
- 2 professional references required, with at least 1 from a manager/director or supervisor and the second from a charge RN or higher; coworker references not accepted
- Provide direct patient care within a step down/PCU setting supporting a plastics and reconstructive surgery population
- Participate in rapid response and code team activations as needed
- Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing their contract due to strict compliance timelines
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Former employees are eligible for a travel assignment only after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
- Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are not eligible for travel assignments
- Local candidates are accepted at the same pay rate
- RTO must be submitted and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
