Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Night Shift RN for a Pulmonary Step Down/PCU assignment in a Level I Trauma Center in Connecticut. The role demands ventilator, tracheostomy, and telemetry expertise, with a CT/Comp­act RN license and BLS/ACLS/NIHSS certifications.

Responsibilities include patient care on a 3x12 schedule (19:00–07:00), 1:3 ratio, no on-call, and occasional floating within scope. Epic EMR experience is required; prior trauma center experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Active CT or Compact RN license required prior to start date.
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (1.5 years accepted if from a Level I trauma center or large hospital).
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required.
• ICU, ventilator, telemetry, and tracheostomy experience required.
• Ventilator experience is a hard requirement.
• Trauma Center experience at a large facility required.
• Skills include IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia management, and cardiac drip management (no titration).
• 1 professional reference required.

Responsibilities

• Pulmonary Step Down Unit caring for patients with mechanical ventilation.
• Average patient ratio of 1:3.
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:00).
• Every other weekend required.
• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs.
• No on-call requirements.
• Epic EMR experience required.
• Work in a Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center with over 1,500 staffed beds.
• Provide care for pulmonary step down patients requiring mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy care, and respiratory support.
• Participate in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams.
• RTO requests greater than 7 days require additional approval.
• Local candidates not accepted if residing within 75 miles of the hospital.
• Previous perm staff must be separated for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted.
• COVID vaccine and booster required except for religious or medical exemptions.
