Job summary
American Traveler Staffing Professionals is hiring an experienced RN for a Pulmonary Step Down/PCU role at a Level I Trauma Center. The nurse will care for mechanically ventilated patients, with a typical 1:3 ratio and 3x12 hour days from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Every other weekend is required, with no on-call shifts. Epic EMR is used for charting in a large academic hospital setting.
Qualifications
- Active CT or Compact RN license is required before start date.
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications are required.
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience; 1.5 years acceptable with Level I Trauma Center or large hospital.
- Experience in ICU, ventilator, telemetry, and tracheostomy care.
- Experience at Level I Trauma Center or large academic hospital preferred.
- Strong IV therapy, phlebotomy, and line care skills.
- Ventilator management and non-invasive airway care experience.
Responsibilities
- Care for mechanically ventilated patients in Pulmonary Step Down/PCU.
- Maintain 1:3 patient ratio; monitor cardiac rhythms.
- Work day shifts; 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

- Work in the Pulmonary Step Down/PCU unit caring for mechanically ventilated patients
- Average patient ratio of 1:3
- Day shift schedule, 3x12 hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope required to meet facility needs
- No on-call responsibilities
- Epic EMR used for charting
- Active CT or Compact RN license required prior to start date
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required (1.5 years accepted with Level I Trauma Center or large hospital experience)

- Prior experience at a Level I Trauma Center or large academic hospital required
- Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care
- Experience with respiratory care including ventilator management, tracheostomy care, and non-invasive airway management
- Cardiac monitoring skills including dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Experience managing cardiac drips (no titration required)
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE protocols
- One professional reference required for consideration
- Provide direct care to mechanically ventilated patients in a Pulmonary Step Down setting
- Utilize Rapid Response and Code teams as needed for emergency response
- Work within a large, academic Level I Trauma Center environment with over 1,500 staffed beds
- Travelers must be willing to participate in natural disaster or emergency response activities as needed
- Flu vaccine required with no declinations accepted
- COVID vaccine and booster required, with exemptions available only for religious or medical reasons
- RTO requests greater than 7 days require additional approval
- Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are not accepted
- Previous perm staff must have been separated from the facility for at least 2 years to be considered as a traveler
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
