Job description

American Traveler is hiring an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position requiring current OH or compact license, PCU experience, and rotating day/night shifts.

Requirements

• Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience within the last 12 months
• At least 1 year of PCU experience required
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
• Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Skills required include dysrhythmia interpretation, rapid response team use, feeding tube care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line care, IV starts, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management, PCA, chest tube management, external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, IV insulin protocols, insulin drip titration, phlebotomy, chemotherapy administration and monitoring, wound care/wound vac, arterial line management, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• Two professional references required, at least one from a manager/director or supervisor; charge RN acceptable for second reference; no coworker references accepted

Responsibilities

• Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds and a small number of med-surg patients
• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• Rare pediatric patients are cared for by permanent staff; pediatric experience not required
• Rotating 12-hour day/night contract with shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Staffing ratios of 1:4-5 for Med Surg Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity
• Uses B450 GE telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, continuous bladder irrigation, and PCA pumps
• Epic charting system required
• Provide high-acuity progressive care nursing with a strong focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
• Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is welcomed; prior travel experience is preferred but not required
• Local candidates accepted at the same rate
• Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
• Current employees are ineligible to be hired as a traveler at this health system
• RTO must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
• Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing the contract due to strict compliance timelines
