Job summary

American Traveler is seeking a Pre/Post Op RN for an ambulatory surgery center in Illinois. An active IL RN license and a minimum of 3 years’ RN experience are required.

BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory, with hospital teaching experience preferred, and familiarity with charting systems encouraged. You’ll work a day shift in a 5-room unit (6:45 AM–3:15 PM) with daily census around 25, and occasional floating to affiliate facilities.

Qualifications

• Active IL RN license in hand at time of application.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or Red Cross accepted; RQI cards not accepted).
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience required.
• Teaching hospital experience preferred.
• Experience with any charting system preferred.
• Skills in pre/post-operative care including pre-op assessment, discharge instructions, medication reconciliation, and obtaining EKG/ECG.
• Experience with various anesthesia types including general, MAC, spinal, and conscious sedation preferred.
• Knowledge of malignant hyperthermia protocol and isolation precautions/PPE.

Responsibilities

• Ambulatory surgery center setting with a 5-room Pre/Post Op unit.
• Average daily census of 25 patients.
• Day shift schedule, 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM, 5x8.
• Floating required to meet facility needs within scope.
• Open to accommodating block scheduling.
• Surgery case types include Ortho, Ortho/Spine, Ortho/Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, and Podiatry.
• Provide pre- and post-operative nursing care including patient assessment, education, and discharge instructions.
• Administer and monitor procedural sedation and manage reversal agents as needed.
• Floating is required for all travelers, potentially including nearby affiliate facilities.
• First-time travelers are accepted for this role.
• RTO requests ideally limited to 5 days or fewer.
• Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays.
• Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler.
• Local candidates are accepted for this specialty.
