American Traveler is seeking an RN First Assist for the Operating Room in Kentucky. CNOR or RNFA certification and an active KY or compact RN license are required. The role supports a 26-week day-shift contract (0600-1430) with call every other day and every other weekend.

Responsibilities include assisting the surgical team with case setup, turnover, and perioperative care, while adhering to aseptic technique, nursing processes and safety standards. Benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Active, unrestricted RN license KY or compact.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• First Assist RN certification CNOR or RNFA.
• ADN or ASN required, BSN preferred.
• 2+ years First Assist nursing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical pharmacology, anesthesia adjuncts.

Responsibilities

• Assist surgical team in case setup, room turnover and cleaning between procedures.
• Perform needle and instrument counts and restock OR supplies.
• Provide perioperative nursing care from preoperative to recovery.
• Assist physicians during a variety of procedures and support efficient room turnover.
• Follow nursing process and AORN standards throughout the OR stay.
• Be fiscally responsible for surgical resources and supplies.

Requirements

• First Assist RN certification required: CNOR or RNFA
• ADN or ASN required, BSN preferred
• 2+ years of prior First Assist nursing experience preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic technique, surgical pharmacology, and anesthesia agent adjuncts

Responsibilities

• Surgical Services department with 15 OR suites, including hybrid and cardiothoracic rooms, plus PACU, sterile supply, pharmacy, and scheduling support areas
• 26-week contract on day shift, Monday through Friday, 0600-1430
• Call required every other day and every other weekend
• Assists surgical team in case setup, room turnover, and cleaning between procedures
• Performs needle and instrument counts and restocks OR supplies as needed
• Provides perioperative nursing care from preoperative preparation through surgery and recovery
• Assists physicians during a variety of surgical procedures while helping minimize room turnaround times
• Uses the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care throughout the OR stay
• Follows AORN standards of care and departmental safety procedures
• Fiscally responsible for economical use of surgical resources and supplies
